Research has demonstrated that individuals with #ADHD are at greater risk for developing #bingeeatingdisorder or #bulimia than those without ADHD. A study conducted at Harvard Medical School found that girls with ADHD were almost 4x more likely to have an #eatingdisorder than those without ADHD. Another study found that 11 percent of women with ADHD, compared to 1 percent of women without, reported a history of #bulimia.

People with ADHD struggle with poor impulse control and to regulate their emotions. This sets the stage for #BED. For those struggling with #bulimia, food can serve as self-medication for anxiety, stress, anger, and boredom – common obstacles for people with ADHD.

ADHD has been referred to as the “black sheep” of #mentalhealth issues but it is a real condition that is often accompanied by other mental health issues, including #eatingdisorders, which are all worthy of patience, compassion, and healing.

To all the people out there who are living with ADHD: Not fitting in is not a flaw. There’s no denying that those with ADHD are different, but think about all the superpowers! For example, people with ADHD tend to be generous, loving, funny, creative, and entrepreneurial.

This quote may be cliché, however, it holds truth in this context: “Everyone is a genius,” Albert #Einstein said. “But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid.”

You are not lazy. You are not stupid. You are not a disappointment. You are valued. You’re probably incredibly gifted, but you might not know it because your standards are so high!

The fact is, our world wouldn’t be what it is today without minds like yours. So, if you are struggling, please reach out for help. We need you and your beautiful mind in so many ways and want to help you remove any barriers preventing you from knowing your own worth, potential, and whole health. ♥
